Join us this Thursday (October 3rd) for a high-quality installment of First Thursdays at Hawaiian Brian’s!! As always, this HawaiiSlam show will be hosted by Kealoha and will feature:
— Yoza, a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Award winner (Hawai‘i’s highest and most prestigious music honor) for “R&B Album of the Year.” She is an accomplished singer/songwriter/musician who fuses Hip Hop, R&B and Latin influences, redefining the sound of acoustic soul. Yoza has featured live at countless venues including the Hard Rock Café Hollywood, The Charleston, the Waikīkī Shell, and Blue Note Hawai‘i.
— An official qualifier for the 2019-2020 HawaiiSlam season. Normal slam rules apply, and the top two poets will advance to the 2020 Grand Slam Finals that will determine HawaiiSlam’s 17th Poetry Slam team. Winner of this qualifier slam receives $100.
— Turntable sorcery by DJ Monkey (Secret Record Store / Scratch)
— Live painting by the resident artists (past artists include Solomon Enos, Aaron “Angry Woebots” Martin, Erin McCullough, Kimi Werner, The Storekeeper, Dhyana Zagri, Stanstill, Nabahe, Wes Ka‘uhane, Neal Uno, Pancho Abalos, Mike Fresh, Manny P, Patti Bruce, Aaron Char, Mark Agnir, Jeff Lum, Samantha Goldman, Earl Washington, Clinton “Clean” Haness, Sequoia, Carol Tagawa, TJ Howe, Nikila Badua, Jeremiah Skurtu, Sarah Hodges, Hanam Mun, Risa Oram, Melissa Soriano, Talulah, and Alicia Soder)

Validated parking for Hawaiian Brian’s is $2 for 4 hours and $2 per additional hour. There is plenty of street parking in the area as well (note, if you street park or walk/bike/bus, enter through the 24 Hour Fitness lobby on Kapi‘olani and walk up the stairs).
