MEET THE FINALISTS
82FIFTY
82fifty is an alternative rock reggae music collective based out of Oahu. Known on the island as a hidden gem for their signature sound & style, these Hawaii fellas bring nothing but high energy and originality to the large sea of traditional island music.
BLOOD MONEY
Blood Money was formed in July of 2022 and we released our first EP in February of 2023. We are a high energy, aggressive and groovy band that consists of members from past and present local bands such as Darlington, All Heart, Ignite the Red, SadKidz and Oceans Deep. The members, Locke, Ace, Kalae and Rian are all seasoned musicians and believe Blood Money can bring the energy and hype at Hawaii is for Lovers while sharing the stage with Saosin, Emery, Hawthorne Heights, Bayside and Mayday Parade.
CONVOLUTED PLANES
Convoluted Planes blends Melodic Post-Hardcore & Metalcore. Incepted by Travis Wong (Drums) after recording two demo tracks in 2014, the project did not fully come alive until 2015 after partnering with Daniel Oswald (Guitar). Along side Joshua Pena (Guitar) & Jeremy Brooks (Bass); representing Kalihi, Kailua, Makiki & Kahalu’u; Convoluted Planes contributes a unique sound to the island scene, infusing familiar tones reminiscent of the mid-2000s.
Convoluted Planes exploded onto the scene in 2016, and has since shared the stage with numerous local and national acts, including Chelsea Grin, M.D.C, Emmure, Crown the Empire, Volumes, Dance Gavin Dance, & Escape the Fate. Completely recorded in the homes of Travis & Daniel, their 2020 debut EP release “Unsent Letters EP” was featured in Honolulu Magazine’s “What to Listen to this Month” article October 2020. Followed up by multiple single releases, Convoluted Planes latest 2023 single release “Aquarium” is currently available on Apple Music & Spotify. With a definitive sound & contagious musical ambition, it is only the beginning for Convoluted Planes.
KILL TUCO
Maniacal airwave vibrations via four musical interlopers in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. “Kill Tuco” is not just a group of noise enthusiasts it’s a call to action. Entirely unenthused by the contemporary materialistic ambitions of the music industry today, Kill Tuco performs and releases music for the same reason wolves howl at the moon – because it’s fun, because it’s in their nature, and because fu*k what their neighbors think anyway.
Kill Tuco is not beholden to any genre, era, or elderly (and agitated) neighborhood committee. Kill Tuco is beholden to the indefinable and inexorable desire to create and perform sound-karate. To play as they feel and to have listeners respond as they feel in turn. Whether you want to dance, cry, mosh, meditate, or even purchase real estate in an imaginary place – Kill Tuco is there to facilitate your journey. Namaste.
SUMMER STREET
Summer Street is a three-piece pop-punk band from Honolulu, Hawaii comprised of Scott Magsayo (vocals/guitar), Rylen Nakama (bass), and Jared Tomi (drums). The group formed in 2017 after the band members met at local rock shows. Led by primary songwriter Magsayo, the Summer Street sound combines R&B-influenced vocals and the dynamic arrangements of pop-punk/alternative music.
The group claimed First Place at the 2019 Osoyami Battle of the Bands, and had opportunities to open for national touring acts including Jimmy Eat World, Hawthorne Heights, Emarosa, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Hellogoodbye, and Tiny Moving Parts. Summer Street’s first full-length album “Secrets and Regrets” was released in 2019 and they have remained active throughout the pandemic with songwriting and live performances. Their second album is due for release in late 2023.
WORSE FOR WEAR
Worseforwear is a pop punk/emo band made up of Las Vegas (& Honolulu) locals, influenced by a ton of diverse genres that we distilled into the songs we’ve always wanted to hear.
